We Were Friends

On a silent night,
I turn the pages
of Facebook,
looking for familiar characters,
friends I had,
girls I liked.

I break into a smile.
Memories.
My dreams and my actions.
Naivety.
Experience.

I smile.
I sigh.

The people I knew,
they also knew me.
We sang together.
We played together.
We danced together.
We enacted plays
at a wonderful place
(called school).

We were friends.
Were.

Life made us grow apart,
turned us into known strangers.

Still
I smile,
I sigh.

And I close the book,
hoping they smile and sigh too
when they come across my page
in their book.

After all,
we were friends.
